Job Title:                    Manager – Health Careers Center

Department/School:  Health Careers Center

Reports to:                 Principal – Assunpink Center

Salary Guide:             Unaffiliated – 12-month contract

 

Position Summary:    The Manager has a primary job goal of assisting the Principal in managing overall  operations of the Health Careers Center in accordance with the laws of the New Jersey Board of Nursing, State of New Jersey, the regulations promulgated by the State Board of Education, the procedures established by the New Jersey Department of Education and the policies and regulations established by the Board of Education designated to support the safe and orderly operation of the Health Careers Center.

Qualifications:           

  • Masters degree in nursing in addition to the requirements of the New Jersey Administrative Code 13:37-1.7 - NJ Board of Nursing
  • Current licensure in NJ as a Registered Professional Nurse
  • Demonstrated leadership in the areas of curriculum development, program evaluation, staff development and school improvement
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Criminal history background check and have proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status

 

Essential Duties:        The Manager performs a variety of duties to assist the Principal in managing the Health Careers Center.  The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing leadership to staff; maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment; coordinating all site activities; communicating information; addressing matters of conflict, solving problems and mediating disputes; and, representing the programs in the community.

 

Responsibilities:         The Manager will assist the Principal in planning, organizing, coordinating, implementing and participating in programs and activities related to the operation of the Health Careers Center in accordance with State laws and regulations, district policies, regulations and administrative procedures.  The Manager shall assume full responsibility for the job tasks detailed below:

 

  1. Represent the technical program at administrative staff meetings in the formulation of system-wide educational policy.
  2. Assume responsibility of the management of the school in accordance with law, administrative code and Board policies and regulations.
  3. Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
  4. Keep the Principal informed of school activities and needs and works cooperatively with central office staff on matters relating to the school and the district.
  5. Assist in the selection of appropriate instructional materials and monitors delivery of the instructional program to establish priorities.
  6. Maintain communication with clinical affiliates to assure that clinical guidelines are established and maintained.
  7. Participate in the development, evaluation and revision of curriculum and assume responsibility for the implementation of approved programs.
  8. Assist in the formulation of grading and promotion policy for students in the technical program.
  9. Assist instructors with teaching methods and lesson planning.
  10. Evaluate examinations given by each instructor.
  11. Supervise the responsibility for the care and inventory of all books, equipment and supplies utilized in the center.
  12. Submit all purchase orders for instructional material and equipment required for the center to the Principal.
  13. Interview, recommend for appointment, assign, and supervise the performance of all school employees and assist them in the achievement of their job goals.
  14. Assist faculty to organize Craft Advisory Committee meetings at a minimum of two times per year.
  15. Assist in the selection of all personnel for the center and make recommendations to the Superintendent for such personnel employed by Mercer County Technical Schools.
  16. Conduct periodic observations of teaching staff members, prepare written comments and offer constructive suggestions for improvement when appropriate.
  17. Conduct staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
  18. Assist the Principal in preparing center’s budget requests and monitors the expenditure of funds.
  19. Establish and maintain an effective office system to support the administrative functions of the school.
  20. Ensure the safekeeping of student and personnel files and other confidential records and documents and the destruction of public records in accordance with laws and regulations.
  21. Report incidents of violence, vandalism, and substance abuse. Work cooperatively with law enforcement authorities in maintaining a safe and drug free school environment. Ensure the removal of students in possession of firearms from the general education program and provide notification as required by law and administrative code.
  22. Prepare or supervise the preparation of all reports, records and other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
  23. Ensure the proper collection, safekeeping and accounting of student activity funds.
  24. Assign duties of the office staff.
  25. Develop and maintain a master schedule for the academic, extracurricular programs and work cooperatively with the School Business Administrator to schedule community use of the school building and grounds.
  26. Approve master teaching schedule and classroom assignments.
  27. Plan, schedule and supervise monthly fire and security drills as required by law and Board policy.
  28. Recruit students and direct students to the appropriate community resources as needed.
  29. Interact appropriately with students during the school hours.
  30. Maintain high standard of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary, in accordance with Board policy and student right to due process.
  31. Participate in the planning and delivery of intervention and referral services for pupils who are having difficulty in their classes.
  32. Supply forms for pupil accounting data such as enrollments, class sizes, pupil-teacher ratio, grade distribution reports, etc.
  33. Maintain control of student discipline as required in the technical programs.
  34. Attend special events held to recognize student achievement and other school sponsored activities and functions. Speak with clarity, authority and appropriate earnestness at such events.
  35. Plan and supervise community outreaches or special conferences as necessary.
  36. Act as a liaison between the school and community; interpret policies, programs and activities; and encourage broad community participation in the affairs of the school.
  37. Notify the Chief School Administrator to arrange for the immediate examination, by a physician, of any pupil suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or other drugs or of using anabolic steroids.
  38. Stay familiar with the policy manual as adopted and updated by the Board, implement the policies and report to the Board via the Superintendent on policies that may need to be modified in order to improve student achievement.
  39. Oversee fire safety precautions and fire drill/accident prevention and safety in the shops.
  40. Oversee proper maintenance of each shop and classroom area.
  41. Assist the Manager of Building and Grounds in the planning, coordinating and evaluating of work activities and schedules of custodial and maintenance personnel.
  42. Specifically for implementing the policy on harassment bullying and intimidation (HIB), the role of the Manager is that “investigation shall be initiated by the Principal’s designee within one school day of the report. The Manager serves as the HIB specialist.
  43. Assume responsibility for his/her continuing professional growth and development by attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses and by reading professional journals and other publications.
  44. Responsible for the execution and completion of special assignments as directed by the Principal or the Superintendent of Mercer County Technical Schools.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

Perform additional duties at the request of the Principal.

 

Evaluation of Performance:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Principal in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and the Board’s policies for the Evaluation of Administrators.
